MEDIA RELEASE

THE BORDER READY TO CELEBRATE CULTURAL DIVERSITY WEEK
This week, hundreds of locals will be celebrating the diversity of cultures our region enjoys. Border residents are encouraged to get involved in the many activities on offer during Cultural Diversity Week, which runs from 18 to 26 March, 2017.

Once again this year, Wodonga will host Cultures at The Cube on Saturday 18, a diverse program of music, dance and delicious foods from the local Aboriginal, Bhutanese, Croatian, Iranian, Filipino, Indian, and African communities. Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation CEO, Caine Raudino, believes that “Cultures at the Cube will be even more exciting this year due to the many different cultural performances and food offerings from both the aboriginal and migrant communities”. Albury-Wodonga Ethnic Communities Council’s Chairperson, Sue Portors echoed these sentiments, adding that “the event is important, as it helps our newest community members feel they belong and reminds us of our rich cultural history, including that of our oldest communities, Australia’s First
Peoples.” The event kicks off at 12 noon,Cultures at the Cube is supported by several local organisations with sponsorship from the Victorian Multicultural Commission.

Other events on the program include a Harmony Day lunch at the new wood-fired ovens at Belvoir Park Wodonga on Sunday 19 from 11am and across the border at the wood-fired ovens in Albury from 4pm, followed by Holi: Festival of Colour from 5pm. Other highlights include Music in the Gardens featuring ‘Africa Entsha’ at the Albury Botanic Gardens on Sunday 19 from 1pm, activities at the Lavington Library on March 21, and a Multicultural Day at Wodonga Seniors Secondary College on March 23.
